Surrey Grove Reserve upgrade

We’re upgrading the playground and reserve at Surrey Grove to create a fun, modern space for local tamariki, rangatahi and whānau to enjoy.

Through consultation with the community, we gathered valuable feedback from iwi/hapū, Te Kura o Tūtarawānanga | Merivale School, and the Merivale Community Centre.

During consultation, the community told us they’d like:

  • more modern and inclusive play equipment suitable for a range of ages
  • better safety features, including improved surfacing and lighting
  • shaded areas for comfort during warmer months and a drinking fountain
  • a renewed and uplifting look that enhances the space’s appeal and encourages more everyday use, supported by a flat, grassed informal field area
  • seating and social spaces where parents and caregivers can relax.

Using this input, we developed the below concept design.

The playground makeover is scheduled to begin in early March. You may notice temporary fencing and site preparation activity ahead of this date as our contractors get ready for construction. Construction is expected to take 6–8 weeks. The playground will be closed for the duration of the upgrade to ensure everyone’s safety.

We’ll share an opening date once work is underway and timelines are confirmed.
