Whakahoutanga ki Allan McBride Reserve

Allan McBride Reserve upgrade

We’re transforming Allan McBride Reserve, Gate Pā into a vibrant, welcoming, inclusive space.

Through consultation with the community, we gathered valuable feedback from iwi/hapū and Tauranga Girls’ College.

During consultation, the community told us they’d like:

  • more modern and inclusive play equipment suitable for a range of ages
  • improved amenities including shade, drinking fountain and seating
  • Improve access, paved path and drop-down kerb for accessibility shaded areas and somewhere to study
  • a refreshed look and feel that brightens the space and invites more use
  • seating and social spaces for parents and caregivers
  • Some additional ideas were suggested for the space and the current design has been developed with those ideas in mind.

Using this input, we developed the concept design below.

The playground makeover began in early March. Construction is expected to take 6–8 weeks and the playground will be closed for the duration of the upgrade to ensure everyone’s safety.

Allan McBride Reserve is ready to play!

Come and celebrate the opening of this awesome new playground.
