We’re inspecting the previously completed renewal works across Tauranga’s wastewater network using CCTV camera equipment. In late July/early August 2026, wastewater pipe inspections will take place in parts of Mount Maunganui North. 

What are we doing and why are we doing it?

Over time, wastewater pipes can deteriorate, causing cracks, leaks, and potential blockages or overflows. To prevent this, we conduct annual wastewater renewals across the city using pipe relining – a minimally disruptive method that installs a new liner inside damaged pipes through manholes. 

Following relining of some pipes in Mount Maunganui North last year, we are now inspecting these pipes to check that they remain in good condition and are operating as intended.

This work involves using CCTV camera equipment to inspect the underground wastewater pipes. The cameras are inserted through existing wastewater manholes, meaning no excavation or digging is required.

Project timing, locations and traffic management

Please note timeframes are subject to change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

While works are underway, temporary traffic management will be in place to ensure safety of our work crews and the community. Traffic management will differ from location to location, but may involve temporary footpath closures, parking limitations, detours and stop/go control. While works are underway, please keep away from work zones.

    • Detour will be in place for drivers on Maunganui Road heading east towards Commons Avenue. Detour will run along Commons Avenue return down Grace Avenue.

    • Detour will be in place for drivers on The Mall heading east towards Leinster Avenue. Detour will run along The Mall and return down Commons Avenue.

How will these works affect the community?

Water use

If your property is located along the above areas, we need your help limiting water usage while works are underway. During this time please:

• Limit flushing toilets
• Limit using dishwashers or washing machines
• Switch off automatic wastewater discharge pumps (*If you have an automatic pump fitted to your sewer system, please let us know as soon as possible by calling one of the numbers given below.)

What to expect while works are underway

Noise
