We’re making improvements to Tweed Street to make it safer and easier to cross the road, especially for children and people walking to and from nearby schools and local destinations.
Why are we doing this?
We’re working to make walking, biking and scootering easier and safer, especially around schools. As part of this we will be improving crossings and footpaths in 10 locations across the city between April and June this year.
On Tweed Street, near Valley Road, we’re installing a new zebra crossing to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity.
What are we doing?
- Installing a new zebra crossing with pedestrian refuge to make crossing safer
- Removing three parking spaces near the crossing (on the northern side) and extending the yellow ’no-stopping’ lines to reduce vehicle movements
- Widening the footpaths on both sides of the road to improve accessibility
When is the work taking place?
We plan to do this work in July, weather dependent, and should take around three weeks to complete.
Traffic management
During construction, temporary traffic management will be in place to support safe movement around the site.
