We’re delivering safety improvements on Grenada Street to make crossing the road safer and easier for residents, visitors, and people travelling through the area.
Why are we doing this?
We’re making these improvements in response to community concerns around pedestrian safety. Pedestrian activity in the area is also increasing (due to the retirement village expansion, the new Pavilion events centre, and nearby bus stops).
The improvements (two raised pedestrian platforms and a new pedestrian crossing) will slow vehicles and make crossing the road safer.
The project aligns with the Inclusive City Strategy and Accessible Tauranga Action & Investment Plan.
What are we doing?
- Upgrading the existing pedestrian refuge to include a raised speed table (western side)
- Installing a new raised pedestrian crossing at the existing pedestrian refuge (eastern side)
When is the work taking place?
We plan to do this work in June, weather dependent, and should take around three weeks to complete.
Traffic management
During construction, temporary traffic management will be in place to support safe movement around the site.
