Pilot Bay stormwater outlet maintenance

We’re carrying out maintenance on three stormwater outlets at Pilot Bay to ensure effective stormwater drainage and reduce localised flooding.

Why are we doing it

The stormwater pipes at Pilot Bay carry excess stormwater away from streets and properties during heavy rainfall, tidal events, and storms.

The stormwater outlets are the end points of these pipes, located along the beach. During weather events, and can shift and block the outlets, stopping water from draining properly.

Regular maintenance helps keep the system working and reduces the risk of flooding.

What are we doing

  • Clearing blockages in three exposed stormwater pipelines
  • Extending two outlets near Grace Avenue and Commons Avenue by 5 metres
  • Repairing the third outlet near Pacific Avenue (no extension)

Project timing

Work is scheduled to start on Monday, 11 May 2026, and is expected to take three weeks to complete, depending on weather and tides.

What to expect

While the upgrade works are underway, there will be machinery on the beach. Please remain away from the fenced off work areas for your safety.

The Pilot Bay carpark near Pacific Avenue will be closed to the public from 8am Monday, 11 May, through to 3pm Friday, 15 May, to allow for construction vehicle access to and from the site. The carpark closure may extend into the following week if we encounter adverse weather or unforeseen delays.
