Closing the existing SH29/Belk Road intersection is a key part of the Tauriko Enabling Works. The intersection will be permanently closed after a new roundabout connecting Belk Road and Taurikura Drive is built.
The new roundabout will be constructed by Tauriko Business Estate developer Element IMF and will provide improved access for Belk Road residents and business owners to reach the Tauriko Business Estate, SH29 and SH36.
Construction of the roundabout will begin once Kaweroa Drive is connected to the new Redwood Lane roundabout, as part of the Tauriko Enabling Works project, and a temporary connection with Kaweroa Drive via Taihoa Rise is built.
Access during construction
Belk Road will be closed at two points to allow for the new roundabout to be built. An extension to Taihoa Rise, between Kaweroa Drive and Anianiku Place, that connects to Belk Road is being built and will provide temporary access between Belk Road and Kaweroa Drive during construction. Lower Belk Road access will remain via SH29 at the existing intersection during construction.

To improve safety at the SH29/Belk Road intersection during the construction of the Belk Road/Taurikura Drive roundabout, a 70km/h temporary speed limit is planned to be put in place.
Permanent closure of Belk Road/SH29 intersection
Once the Belk Road/Taurikura Drive connection is built, the SH29/Belk Road intersection will be closed permanently in late 2026, and the Taihoa Rise extension will also be closed with all traffic using Taurikura Drive instead.
The planned improvements will ultimately provide a safer and more efficient way for all Belk Road residents and businesses to move around, opening additional routes and journey options.
