Reserve Fencing

Fencing neighbourhood reserves

We’re adding fences to four neighbourhood reserves across the city’s network to create more inclusive play spaces for children and families with diverse needs.

What’s happening

Four neighbourhood reserves in Ohauiti, Welcome Bay, Pāpāmoa, and Mount Maunganui will receive fences that run along a roadside boundary and/ or around a section of the reserve that includes a playground. Fencing is an accessibility upgrade that supports those who need secure boundaries to play confidently.

Reserve selection considered several elements, including geographical location, existing boundary fencing, pedestrian and maintenance access, current reserve layout, amenities such as shade and seating, sensory experience, and play value.

Installation is planned for April – June 2026.

Reserve locations are:

  • Rowesdale Drive Reserve (Ohauiti)
  • Keam Reserve (Welcome Bay)
  • Waterford Downs Reserve (Pāpāmoa)
  • Berescourt Reserve (Mount Maunganui)

Existing and future reserve fencing

This project expands our existing network of fenced neighbourhood reserves (shown in blue) by offering an additional four fenced play opportunities (shown in red). These provide a closer fenced play space for residents in Ohauiti, Welcome Bay, Pāpāmoa, and Mount Maunganui and surrounding suburbs.
