We’re resurfacing asphalt on Pyes Pā Road, between the SH29A roundabout and Braithwaite Lane, as part of our regular road maintenance programme. A portion of Cheyne Road is also being resurfaced as part of this work.
Some resurfacing work requires a road closure at the Pyes Pā Road/ SH29A roundabout where traffic will not be able to access Pyes Pā Road from the roundabout between 9pm and 6am, on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 November.
Why are we doing it?
We have an annual road maintenance programme that includes resurfacing work to ensure water seepage doesn’t damage layers underneath the road and to prevent potholes forming.
What are we doing?
We’re resurfacing portions of road on Pyes Pā Road and Cheyne Road in three stages (see map below).

When are we doing it?
Work is scheduled to take place from Sunday, 16 November to Thursday, 27 November between the hours of 6pm and 6am, Sunday to Thursday (no works on Friday or Saturday nights). All work is weather dependent.
The road closure at the SH29A roundabout on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 November will take effect from 9pm – 6am.
This work is being undertaken at night due to traffic volumes during the day.
What to expect while works are underway
Pyes Pā Road, between the SH29A roundabout and 25 Pyes Pā Road, will be closed during works on Sunday, 16 and Monday 17 November, 9pm – 6am. A detour is available via Ōropi Road and Cheyne Road. Residents within the closure zone can access their properties via this detour.
Traffic management, including temporary lane closures, will be in place on the SH29A roundabout approaches on Sunday and Monday evening.
The remainder of work will be completed under stop/ go traffic management where access along Pyes Pā Road will be available.
The works involve heavy machinery being used to resurface the road which does create noise and vibrations.
The road surface and levels of the road may vary which is temporary.
Please drive carefully when travelling through the works area, follow signage and allow for extra travel time.
