Maranui Street improvements

We’re upgrading Maranui Street, between Sunrise Avenue and Sandhurst Drive, to make it safer and easier to get around.

As a vital connection between Pāpāmoa and Tauranga/Mount Maunganui, we plan to complete several improvements along Maranui Street. The improvements include new level pedestrian crossings, road widening, a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists, and improved bus stops, shelters, and street lighting.

The project was initially part of a co-funded initiative with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) as it needs significant financial investment that Council cannot cover alone.

However, NZTA has shifted their focus, so the project no longer has their financial support. As a result, the project has been delayed until 2027, depending on its prioritisation in that year’s Annual Plan.
