Prepare for a burst of colours and culture as the Holi Colour Splash event returns to Memorial Park, Tauranga, this Saturday.

Holi, renowned as the Festival of Colours, is a vibrant Hindy tradition celebrated worldwide, and finds its local embodiment in Tauranga, fostering cultural appreciation and unity in diversity.

Nelita Byrne, Venues and Events Manager at Tauranga City Council, remarked, "Holi Colour Splash exemplifies the rich tapestry of our community in Tauranga.”

“The event provides an opportunity for cultural exchange, fostering understanding and joy in a festive atmosphere."

The Tauranga Western Bay Community Events Fund (TWBCEF) are proud supporters of this year’s Holi Festival once again.

The fund, established through a collaborative effort between the Acorn Foundation, Bay Trust, TECT, Tauranga City Council, and Western Bay of Plenty District Council, champions grassroots initiatives, ensuring the broader community reaps the rewards of events such as Holi.

Holi Colour Splash, in its 8th year in Tauranga, promises an array of activities for all ages.

Eventgoers will be treated to live music, including international artists Sarasvati and Malin, traditional dance performances, cultural exhibitions, an assortment of traditional Indian cuisine and the iconic colour-throwing festivities, a hallmark of Holi celebrations.

People can buy environmentally conscious, non-toxic brightly coloured powders at the event, and are encouraged to wear white or light-coloured clothing so that when they join in, the colours can burst and shine at their brightest!

As Holi unfolds, anticipation builds for other family events in the city centre over the weekend including Pocket Sized Play, Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Tutus on Tour at Baycourt Community & Arts Centre, the return of Children's Day and All Ford Car Day.

Families are invited to extend their weekend and partake in a weekend full of fun in the city centre.
