Road closures - 9 December 2021

Cameron Road

The streetscape upgrade between Wharf Street and Elizabeth Street intersection is underway. Temporary traffic management is in place and there is currently a southbound lane closure on Cameron Road between Wharf Street and 184 Cameron Road (Tumble Laundromat), and closures on Spring Street and Wharf Street.

Work on the wastewater upgrade between Elizabeth Street and Sixth Avenue is underway with pipe bursting of the wastewater line down First Avenue completed. Temporary traffic management will remain in place on Cameron Road and First Avenue, including parking restrictions, until work on the lateral connections (those across the road to the businesses) has been completed. The left-hand turn to First Avenue from Cameron Road will be maintained. The right-hand turn on the eastern and western side from Cameron Road will be closed, with no through access at the intersection.

Work continues on the eastern side of Cameron Road between Sixth and Ninth Avenue, and Twelfth and Fourteenth Avenue. Vehicle traffic will be reduced to one lane on the eastern side in the areas where work is taking place. Temporary traffic management will be in place, however access for all residents, businesses and retail will be maintained. It is expected this work will take up to three months to complete.

Links Avenue cul-de-sac trial

From 15 November to 17 December 2021, a temporary cul-de-sac will be in place on Links Avenue. This means no thoroughfare for general traffic for the duration, access is limited to buses, emergency services, rubbish trucks and residents only.

Residents that live in a property with driveway access to the below streets may use the cul-de-sac at all hours except the standard bus lane hours of 7:15am to 10am, Monday to Friday.

This applies to residents of the following streets: Links Avenue, Ascot Road, Ascot Place, Aintree Place, Berwick Place, Kinross Place, Epsom Road, Solway Place, Compton Place, Spur Avenue, and from 570 Maunganui Road to 600 Maunganui Road.

15th Avenue maintenance work

Essential maintenance work on 15th Avenue, between Grace Road and Burrows Street continues this week. Works are scheduled for completion mid December, weather permitting.

Traffic management will be in place and weekday work will finish at 3pm to avoid peak hour traffic.

During the weekends a short detour will be in place for eastbound traffic, along Grace Road, Fourteenth Avenue and Burrows Street.

To avoid delays or inconvenience please plan your journey, adjust your travel times or use an alternative route.

Elizabeth Street upgrade

The Elizabeth Street upgrade continues to work on a number of fronts around the Thirty Eight Elizabeth development (Farmers). Works on First Avenue and Devonport Road are due to be complete in the next couple of weeks. Works to create the linear park outside Thirty Eight Elizabeth, and to upgrade Mareanui laneway between Thirty Eight Elizabeth and the Elizabeth Street car parking building will be completed in stages as areas are made available.

  • Elizabeth Street west bound lane closure: there is an extended lane closure on the west bound traffic lane (heading towards Takitimu Drive between Devonport Road and Grey Street roundabout) until approximately May 2022. The traffic lane closure is to enable streetscape works and Farmers construction to occur simultaneously. Businesses and footpaths and accessways are accessible during works. On-street carparking will be unavailable.

Other temporary road and lane closures on Elizabeth Street and surrounding streets are as follows:

  • Elizabeth Street road closure – 10 to 11 December: Elizabeth Street between Grey Street and Devonport Road will be closed in both directions from 5am Friday 10 December until 4pm Saturday 11 December to enable setting up a crane to undertake deliveries to the Farmers Building site. Footpath access will continue to be maintained throughout, as well as access to the service lane (beside Events Cinemas) for leased parking users, tenants, delivery and service vehicles. Entry to the service lane is from Devonport Road and will be maintained by traffic controllers.
  • Grey Street road closure – 13 to 17 December: The Elizabeth Street end of Grey Street (the section nearest the roundabout) will be closed to through-traffic from 6am Monday 13 December until 5pm Friday 17 December to enable the construction of landscaped kerb buildouts at the proposed pedestrian crossing between Macpac and Smiths Sports Shoes. Footpath access will be maintained throughout, as well as access to driveways.

Totara Street safety upgrade

We’re working on a safer option for people who travel along Totara Street.

Work continues between Hewletts Road and Triton Avenue. Between 7pm and 7am traffic traveling south along Totara Street will be diverted along Maunganui road between 7pm and 7am, Sunday to Thursday, until this section of work is complete (pictured below). Both lanes of traffic will remain open along Totara Street during the day.

Kawaka Street to Puriri Street

From Sunday 12 December to Thursday 16 December, service identification will be taking place from 7pm to 6am which will require the closure of parking in this area. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
