Bay Dreams - Plan Ahead to Avoid Delays

Sunday, 3 January 2021 will be a busy day for the city’s roads with up to 20,000 people expected to attend Bay Dreams music festival at Trustpower Baypark Stadium.

To manage event traffic, the roads around the stadium will be closed to all vehicles except festival buses. Most ticketholders will be using the free drop and ride bus service at Blake Park, Gordon Spratt Reserve and Durham Street in the city centre.

A managed pedestrian route will be in place through Eversham Estate for people walking from Arataki to Baypark, and back when the event finishes.

Road Closures

Truman Lane will be partially closed to traffic from 7pm on Saturday 2 January and fully closed all day Sunday 3 January.

Eversham Street and side-streets will be closed to traffic from 8am Sunday 3 January to 1am Monday 4 January. Residents will still be able to access their properties.

State Highway 2, 29 and 29A will have various closures in place starting from 7pm on Sunday 3 January to 1am Monday 4 January, including:

  • State Highway 2 - Eastbound lane only from Girven Road to Te Maunga roundabout, then both lanes closed to Mangatawa Link Road (also closed)
  • State Highway 29A - Southbound lane only from State Highway 2 towards Maungatapu

See more on the NZTA website, and for more information on traffic, detours and delays visit the Waka Kotahi journey planner.

If possible, please use an alternative route or travel at a different time - if you need to travel through these areas, drive carefully and expect delays.

Alcohol-free zone

To support event safety, the area around the venue will be a temporary alcohol-free zone and Police will be onsite monitoring this. View more information about temporary alcohol-free areas this summer.

Te Maunga Transfer Station Closed

The Te Maunga Transfer Station will be closed all day on Sunday, 3 January. This may cause increased usage of the Maleme Street Transfer Station.
