On Tuesday, 29 October, Tauranga City Council is commencing work on the reconstruction of Domain Road between Gravatt Road and Doncaster Drive. These works are part of the Domain Road Upgrade project and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete. Motorists should expect delays in this area and are encouraged to use alternative routes; especially between 7 and 22 November when one lane of Domain Road will be closed (see below).
The works consist of the following phases:
- Tuesday, 29 October until Wednesday, 7 November - Domain Road will be accessible both ways through Stop/Go traffic management.
- Thursday, 7 November until Friday, 22 November - Closure of the southbound lane on Domain Rd between Gravatt Road and Doncaster Drive. Northbound vehicles can use Domain Road. Southbound vehicles will be detoured at Gravatt Road.
- Saturday, 23 November until Friday, 6 December - Domain Road will be accessible both ways with speed restrictions in place.
- Tuesday, 3 December until Friday 6 December - Surfacing work to be completed predominantly at night.
These dates may change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.
More about the Domain Road Upgrade project
Tauranga City Council started work on upgrading Domain Road in February this year with the aim of making it safer and easier for people to walk, bike and catch the bus along this busy local road. Stage 1 works are now nearing completion, including safety improvements at the Papamoa Beach roundabout and surfacing works between Papamoa Beach Road and Gravatt Road.
Stage 2 is continuing and involves, amongst other things, the pavement works between Gravatt Road and Doncaster Drive. The plan is to complete Stage 2 by June 2020.
