Prominent local artist Mr G (Graeme Hoete) will be unveiling his latest piece this Sunday at Tauranga Airport – a tribute to another local legend, aviator Oscar Garden.
In 1930, Garden earned his place in aviation history as the first New Zealander to fly from England to Australia in his Gypsy Moth aeroplane named Kia Ora.
Known for his unique spray-painting style, Mr G has also hand-carved a frame for the portrait that celebrates the aviator’s heritage.
Mr G will unveil the piece with the late aviator’s daughter, Mary Garden, at Tauranga Airport where the piece will be on show.
