Next week, elected members will decide how or if Council will progress with a potential supermarket development in Welcome Bay on Council-owned land. At the Community & Culture committee on 11 July, elected members will be presented with feedback received from the Welcome Bay community and recommendations from Council on next steps.
The committee’s agenda, as released today, includes a report detailing the results of the survey. It shows 66.5% in support of the potential development, with 56.3% indicating preference for Waitaha Reserve, 25.3% Owens Park, and 18.4% Waipuna Park.
Community engagement was undertaken with the residents of Welcome Bay between 10 April and 2 June to obtain feedback and views on the potential use of Council-owned land for the development of a supermarket.
